For My People Poster

The poster goal was to highlight the important
role that African Americans have played in Mississippi’s history during Black
History Month. I chose to highlight Margaret Walker and her legacy of
preserving Black culture at Jackson State University. I wanted to create a
poster that represents the figure without using any photographs of the figure.
I handwrote the background image with her poem “For My People,” and juxtaposed the last line on top of the image. I used normal lined notebook paper with blue pen to put emphasis on her education background in English and her teaching career.
To preserve Walker in my poster, I took her handwriting and doodles and put those elements in the poster to represent her.
